The Randburg Clinic School transformation is a reminder that a fresh coat of paint can do more than simply change the look of a room. It can help create a brighter, cleaner and more welcoming environment for the learners and staff who use these spaces every day.
Through the Universal Cares programme, Universal Paints was proud to support Randburg Clinic School with a donation of paint to refresh classrooms and other areas around the school. After years of learning, growing and countless young footsteps passing through its spaces, the school was ready for a well-deserved facelift.
The aim was not simply to improve the appearance of the classrooms, but to provide durable, practical finishes that could stand up to the demands of a busy school environment for years to come.
Supporting the Important Work of Randburg Clinic School
Randburg Clinic School provides specialised education and support for learners diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or Severe Behaviour Disorder.
The school is committed to helping every learner work towards their full academic, social, emotional and physical potential, with education and support tailored to their individual needs. Its work helps learners build strong foundations, develop greater independence and prepare for the future.

Choosing Paint for a Busy School Environment
With classrooms seeing plenty of daily activity, the coatings selected for the project needed to provide more than a fresh appearance. Good preparation, durability, washability and ease of maintenance were all important considerations.
Creating a Strong Foundation
Before the walls received their new colour, Pigmented Plaster Primer was applied to prepare and seal the surfaces.
This traditional solvent-based primer and sealer offers excellent hiding power, helping to create a more uniform surface and providing a sound foundation for the topcoat.
Freshening Up the Ceilings
The ceilings were refreshed using Contractors Acrylic PVA.
This economical water-based coating provides a matt finish, helping minimise unwanted sheen and glare while offering good hiding power for a clean, even-looking ceiling.
Durable, Washable Classroom Walls
Once the primer had dried, the classroom walls received two coats of Allcote Pure Acrylic in its soft Suede finish.
Allcote is a new-generation, water-based pure acrylic coating designed for long-term performance, with a life expectancy of up to 10 years when applied as specified.
Its durability and washability made it particularly well suited to the school environment. Marks, fingerprints and the everyday mess that comes with busy classrooms can be cleaned more easily without prematurely damaging the paint film or affecting its appearance.
Protecting Windows and Gates
High Gloss Enamel was used on window frames and gates where a tougher, hard-wearing finish was required.
This traditional long-oil alkyd coating provides a strong, durable high-gloss finish with good resistance to everyday wear, scratches and regular cleaning, helping protect these frequently used surfaces for years to come.
